iPods

In the past decade the iPod has completely changed how people listen to music. Instead of having to carry around ten different CD's for only 11 different songs, now all you have to do is carry around an iPod. I think this is a really good thing. It makes life so much more convenient. Instead of having this big thing to listen to music and all of CD's now all you need is to carry around your iPod. and play them in any order

For those of you who may have been living under a rock for the last ten years and iPod is a music player that was created by Apple. An iPod depending on the type can hold from 500 to 20,000 sogs. It can take all different songs from any CD or record and play them in any order. There are a few different types of iPods. The first two are the iPod classic and the iPod nano. This 2 just hold music. The classic is larger and can hold more songs, and the nano iis tiny but it holds less songs. The other type is the iPod touch. They touch can have songs on it but it also has different free or paid applications , in which you can play games, and do a lot of other things.

To be able to use an iPod you need a few different things. First off you need a computer and the iPod. Then you need to plug the iPod into the computer and download iTunes which holds all of you songs on the computer. Then you put you CD's into tge computer and download the songs, or you can buy songs on iTunes. Once you have all the songs you want on the computer, iTunes will transfer the songs onto your iPod and then you can start listening.

This product show that producers assume that Americans want a music player that is convenient. I think this because the iPod puts all your songs in one place. This shows that people want there music in one easy to use place so they don't have to worry about looking for different CD's to play.

To Take Wildness in Hand abstract

In the last few years there has been a lot of talk about global warming. They say that the earth is getting warmer every year. In "Taking Wildness in Hand: Resuing Species," by Michelle Nijhuis she talks about how some organism aren't really adjusting well to the climate change. Because of this these organisms are becoming extinct. She talks about the The Torreya taxifolia. These trees grew so much that they were used as Christmas trees and fences. But over the years because of climate change the number of theses trees has gotten a lot smaller. She then goes on to talk about how to talk about all different ways this climate change is affecting America.

Virtual Iraq Abstract

One of the biggest things that plague war veterans is P.T.S.D. otherwise knows as post traumatic stress disorder. What happens is these veterans will either have bad dreams or bad memories of things that happened while they were over seas. His memories drive these veterans crazy and a lot of them end up committing suicide. In Virtual Iraq by Sue Halpern, Halpern talks about a new experimental technology that is helping these veterans deal with P.T.S.D.. What it is is basically a video game. They put on a helmet and goggles and a simulator reenacts scenes that happen at war. This is used to try and help them get over things that they have seen. This is done is small stages so the veterans don't get completely scared. The veterans that have used this say it really does work and it has helped them adjust to civilian life.

High-tech trash abstract

Whenever you get a new piece of technology two things usually happen. One you throw away your old one and two you will probably be throwing that one away to in a few years. In the National Geographic "High-tech Trash" an article by Chris Carroll Carrol talks about what happens after we throw out our old technology for new models. Most of this tech trash gets discarded illegally in third world countries. In this article Carrol focuses mostly on Ghana. In Ghana the amount of tech trash has been growing for years. Most civilians will try and salvage the spare parts to sell. But the rest of the e-waste is actually very harmful to the environment. If we continue to throw away this trash unresponsively this can potentially destroy the planet.

Google Abstract

In is Google making us stupid the author takes about the negative aspects that google and new technology in general has on society today. At the beginning he starts out by talking about how the internet has changed how we look up information and do research. He says that google might have made it easier to find information but it is also making us lazy. Then he starts to talk about some of his friends experiences and how now these people who were lit majors now can't even read long articles because of how they just skim for information. He finishes by comparing the world to how it is in a movie and how people are starting to become like computers.

Is google making us Stupid

In Carr's Is google making us stupid Carr talks about how technology has made people stupid. He talks about one person who was a lit major who doesn't even read books anymore. He says he cant do it because hes so used to skimming through articles on the internet.

I kind of agree with Carr. I think that people of new technology people have become worse at reading and writing. Most people now will shorten words or misspell them when they write because that is how they text or im. This is also making people worse readers. People are now reading these messages and forgetting the right way to spell some words. They are also becoming worse readers because they are just skimming. This is causing people attention spans to get smaller and now they can't read long articles or book.

But i don't think this is necessarily making people stupid. The internet in my opinion actually makes people smarter. Now because of the internet people can research things so much quicker. People used to not know things because of the time it would take them to look through books to find the information. Now people can find this information in minutes as apposed to hours or even days. People also now can know things a lot quicker. New information can be discovered minutes ago and people already know it because it can be put on the internet. Now since people can find these things a lot quicker, now they will actually find out more information because it isn't so time consuming.
